EM has been the successful recipient of a variety of funding bodies to create and perform their own work
Always Been Here
In 2023 they received the Unlimited Open Partner Awards Grant in partnership with Malborough Productions and Homotopia to explore their ongoing audio descriptive movement piece Always Been Here.
…always something weighing on that one…holding them back…always been here…but never seems to arrive…do you know what I mean?
Always Been Here is a multidisciplinary movement conversation between past and present trans bodies in space. Meshing circus, theatre, and dance, Always Been Here is a conversation with the ghosts of our ‘Trancestors’ who have hidden themselves within the workforces of conventionally masculine trades. How can we communicate and embody humans that existed undercover for fear of abuse and violence, and furthermore, how many still do that today?
The initial R&D culminated with two work in progress performances at East London Dance and on the Oceanview Pier on Brighton Beach as an immersive installation.

The Mythical Norm
In 2021 they received and Arts Council England award to explore their ongoing theatre provocation The Mythical Norm.
…everything in the world is designed around an average person. I bet you can guess what he looks like…
Audre Lorde coined the term ‘The Mythical Norm’ to describe the idealised characteristics of society that hold power and bring about oppression. Using specific examples in medicine, manufacturing, and media from the mundane (how gendered is your seatbelt?) to the ridiculous (that white skin tone is the only model for rash depiction is 99% of medical textbooks), TMN will explore how the majority of the world we interact with is designed around an idealised (and non existent) human stereotype.
